Life Lessons From A Grandfather's Life Story Book

Every life story inevitably includes life lessons, usually interwoven so intrinsically into the narrative that they don't jump out at children and grandchildren as they read, but that make an impact nonetheless. 

In one special case, a grandfather wanted his life lessons and words of wisdom to leap off the page and catch his grandchildren's eye. He asked for a special design to highlight life lessons that correspond with certain stories of his life. 

Below are some of our favorite, most impactful life lessons and words of wisdom from his life story book.

1. As you grow up, do not be afraid of hard work. Give up some of today’s pleasures for tomorrow’s successes. In addition, when you are given a job, do it to the best of your ability. No matter how big or small the job is–sweeping a floor or running a company–give it your all.
   
   
2. Keep your siblings close. Your siblings are priceless, irreplaceable lifelong companions and dear friends. Do not take their love for granted.
   
   
3. Push friendships more to the center of your life. You can develop friendships through involvements in your school, workplace, church, and neighborhood. The more you have in common with someone, the more you will want to be around them.
   
   
4. Surround yourself with smarter, happier, more positive people than yourself, and you will be smarter, happier, and more positive.
   
   
5. Some of the simplest, yet most frequently overlooked, all-so-important rules of common courtesy for life are as follows: be modest, consider others’ perspectives, and be respectful to others.
   
   
6. Although it is okay to take suggestions and input from many people, you should take those suggestions and make your own well-thought-out decision. If you put other people in control of what you think, you will never reach your potential or your life goals.
   
   
7. Life is a journey that you are totally in control of, both good and bad. You will be faced with decisions every day that will affect which direction your life will take. Make these decisions wisely and keep your head up, no matter what.
   
   
8. If you do not ask, you will never get what you want or need to survive.
